It's New Year's Eve, and Katia must mail her college application essay by midnight. Adopted from Russia at a young age, her typical adolescent anxiety is compounded by questions of where she fits in the world. Her mother Maggie’s efforts to keep her daughter on track force her to face her own regrets of lost promise and a failed marriage. This moving and funny play depicts the special but strained relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter faced with the uncertainty of what the future may bring.
Memory House premiered at the Actors Theatre of Louisville in 2005. Playwright Kathleen Tolan’s plays, including A Weekend Near Madison, Kate's Diary, Approximating Mother, A Girl's Life and The Wax, have been produced Playwrights Horizons, The Public Theatre and the Women's Project.
