PHILADELPHIA PREMIERE!
by Bridget Carpenter
directed by Meghann Williams
November 7 - December 1, 2007
2nd Stage at The Adrienne,
2030 Sansom St.
Welcome to Madison Feury High, where the faculty are as misguided as the students. When an enigmatic new history teacher shows up from the city, the burned out teachers reluctantly invite him into their circle of angst and disillusionment, only to discover he’s not who they think he is. Bridget Carpenter’s caustically funny play is a hall pass to what happens when you mix gun-toting sophomores, lonely teachers and an unnatural obsession with the Rapture.
The Faculty Room premiered in 2003 at the Humana Festival and is a Kesselring Prize recipient. Playwright Bridget Carpenter is a Susan Smith Blackburn Award and Princess Grace Award winner and recent Guggenheim Fellow. Her numerous plays include Fall, Typhoid Mary and The Death of the Father of Psychoanalysis (& Anna.)
"Lively black comedy...a rollercoaster course" Washington City Paper
"The Faculty Room's exploration of teacher-student relationships and school violence proves disturbingly relevant." The Daily Page, Madison, WI
